Melissa Burns | Reporting 41 years | 6 years at Susan Frye Court Reporting
Melissa graduated from AIB in 1977 with her degree in Court Reporting. She worked for various judges and at another freelance firm until 2012 when she joined Susan Frye Court Reporting. Melissa loves her career and has experienced the vast changes in court reporting technology through the years. Melissa and her partner, Dick, enjoy the food and wine scene in Des Moines.

Julie (Hand) McCurnin | Reporting 35 years | 20 years at Susan Frye Court Reporting
Julie attended AIB and became a certified court reporter in 1983. Julie began as a freelance court reporter and traveled the state of Iowa with her career. She then moved to New York for a few years to continue her career. She moved back to Iowa and began working at Susan's firm in 1998. Julie and her husband live in Norwalk with their two children and family dog. Julie enjoys being a foodie in Des Moines and going to all her family's activities.

Sonya Wright | Reporting 25 years | 4 years at Susan Frye Court Reporting
Sonya received her court reporting degree in 1993. This year marks her 25th year in this career. Sonya worked in Iowa and San Diego as she followed her husband's military career. Sonya and her family eventually stayed permanently in Des Moines and she began working for Susan in 2014. Sonya and her husband have two daughters, Emily and Alise. Their family is very big sports fans, especially for the Cubs. She is very active in her church as well.

Kaylan Parker McCord | Reporting 14 years | 4.5 years at Susan Frye Court Reporting
Kaylan is another AIB graduate, and began her court reporting career in Kansas City. After several moves, she landed in Des Moines and began her work with Susan. Kaylan is the sister of Keriann! Kaylan and her husband have three wonderful children. This bustling family is always doing something, including slowly building up a small farm on their new plot of land.

Jessi Lass | Reporting 9 years | 5 years at Susan Frye Court Reporting
Jessi also attended AIB's court reporting program and graduated in 2009. Though she began her career in Kansas City, Jessi and her husband relocated back to Des Moines in 2013 and she started working for Susan Frye Court Reporting. Jessi and Jason have an adorable son, Tatum. Jessi is often outdoors being active or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen.
"Working as a freelancer at Susan Frye has been a wonderful experience. It's allowed me to find a balance between work life and mom life that I don't think a lot of other careers could give me. Plus, my coworkers are amazing, and I get to see new faces and places weekly."
Keriann Hansen | Reporting 7.5 years | 3.5 years at Susan Frye Court Reporting
Keriann started and ended her degree with court reporting but had a few other majors in between those two points! After graduation, she moved to Indianapolis and began her court reporting career. She eventually moved to Des Moines with her husband, Derrick. She was a court reporter in the juvenile court system until she had her first child. Keriann now has two children, Lena and Reid. She is very crafty and handy; maybe the only reporter we trust with a power saw!
"Susan then graciously took me on as a part-time reporter so I could be a stay-at-home mom and work for her on my husband’s one day off a week. That has since turned into a couple more days a week, and Susan has been so awesome to work for as she continues to work with my crazy schedule. My little family is so very appreciative of her for that!"
Emily Maiers | Reporting 2 years | 2 years at Susan Frye Court Reporting
In 2010, Emily attended AIB's Court Reporting program. She graduated in 2014, the last class to attend AIB. Two years later, Emily received her RPR certification and began working for Susan. Emily is married to Jon, and is a wonderful mother to her son, Brayden. Emily is a big sports fan and is often talking about Hawkeye football, the Cubs and the Bears!

Joy Kripal
Joy Kripal keeps the firm running smoothly by doing many, many important tasks. Joy began working for the firm in 2010 and hasn't looked back. She has three daughters and her not-so-secret talent is a prop designer for live theater. She has worked for many theaters around Central Iowa.
